White Screen Virus

By | January 17, 2014

The problem was, that when the computer was turned on and you logged into windows, there was a white screen with only the pointer icon showing.

The mouse worked but you couldn’t see anything but a white screen.

One solution is to start the computer in safe mode and run rstrui.exe which will start Windows, System Restore.
Once there you can restore the computer back to a previous date, before you had the problem.

That didn’t work for me.

Here are the steps:

  • Put Malewarebytes on a flash drive.
  • Started the computer in Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
  • Opened the flash drive with the command line. In my case it was the   E: drive.
  • Ran the Malewarebytes program by typing mbam-setup- That started the setup for Malewarebytes.

I was then able to scan the system and remove the white screen virus problem.

If you install all of the programs mentioned on the Preventive Maintenance page, on the flash drive, you can also run them
using the same method.
